David Greathouse

Born 1790 in Brown County, Ohio
Died 1827 in Point Township, Posey County, Indiana

David, with his brother, John, migrated to Kentucky about 1805, first to Nelson County, then to Jessamine County. It was there that he met Sarah and they were married. They, along with John, moved to Oldham Co, KY, where they lived for several years, but were unable to obtain any appreciable acreage of land. In the spring of 1816, after Indiana became a state, they built a flatboat and decided to seek a new home westward down the river. They settled aout six miles south of McFaddin's Bluff in Posey County IN. He took an active part in the affairs incident to the early settlement of the county, acquired extensive land holdings and was one of the most influential men of his time and section.

He was fatally injured by river pirates near Cave-in-Rock on the Ohio River.
